If cork is making headway in the yachting sector, it's not just for environmental reasons. On a boat, a deck is above all a living space, and sailors are particularly sensitive to the comfort and durability of materials.<\/p>\n

The first advantage often cited concerns thermal comfort. Whereas a teak deck can become difficult to walk on in the summer sun, cork has a more favourable thermal inertia. Its cellular structure limits the rise in temperature and reduces the sensation of burning under bare feet, a point that is far from trivial for families or long sailings in the sun or when anchored in the Mediterranean or the tropics.<\/p>\n

Cork also stands out for its acoustic properties. Naturally damping, it attenuates vibrations and impact noise, contributing to a quieter environment on board. Without radically transforming a boat's acoustic ambience, this effect is perceptible, particularly on cruisers where overall comfort is becoming a central criterion.<\/p>\n

In terms of adhesion, cork surfaces are formulated to offer an effective grip, even when wet, without becoming abrasive. Unlike some synthetic coverings, they retain a considerable degree of flexibility and age more evenly. Another advantage often highlighted by construction sites is weight. For the same thickness, a cork deck can be significantly lighter than a teak deck, which is a significant advantage on weight-sensitive yachts.<\/p>\n

...For sailors, the choice now goes beyond mere appearance. It has to do with real on-board comfort, maintenance and durability, as well as the balance between the pleasure of sailing and respect for the marine environment. Long relegated to the status of a marginal alternative, cork is now establishing itself as a mature, credible solution in line with the expectations of a yachting industry undergoing a major rethink.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
